The 'new materialism' is the most common name given to a series of movements in several fields that criticise anthropocentrism, rethink subjectivity by playing up the role of inhuman forces within the human, emphasise the self-organising powers of several nonhuman processes, explore dissonant relations between those. Again, I wasn't a big fan of this way of colour correcting, mainly because it was over complicated and completely dictated by chance. I never knew how the picture would come out.
Either it would be too bright or too dark, it was hard to find a mid point. I just had to press and hope it would come out looking alright, which it never really did. |
I try to represent my subjects in their truest natures. - Eian Kantor
Landfills produce methane, methane adds to greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gasses cause global warming. Even your little crisp packet adds to this, your plastic bottle, your bin bag. Not to mention the affect it has on the land, contaminating it, animals, insects and humans unable to use it, The land unable to sustain life leads to deaths of animals, and even people in certain countries that rely on water and agricultural land. I want to make people aware of this, and how there are less harmful ways of discarding our items.

This here is a landfill. A landfill is a hole in a ground, either dug for the purpose of a landfill or old quarries, to fill with waste. Us Brits, on average in one year, produce 31 million tonnes of waste. The equivalent to three and a half million double-decker buses. And that's only England, there's still another 194 countries producing waste every year. England is actually beginning to send waste off to other countries because we're running out of landfill space.

A public service announcement (PSA) is a message in the public interest disseminated without charge, with the objective of raising awareness of, and changing public attitudes and behavior towards, a social issue.
I want to make the collage look chaotic. This will physically represent the chaos we are creating in the natural world. I want the composition of the images to tell a story also as well as the images.
|
Each grey square represents an image in the collage at the background, the black squares are images that are protruding in the foreground, and the black square with red squiggles is going to be the white square with the infomation in it, for example 'five hundred and seventy two million tonnes'.
I will need to create this:

I experimented with gradients and layers on photoshop. I originally started off with creating a collage of all my rubbish to test out the collage idea i'm going to do in my 10 hours. I cut out each image and placed them onto a white background. I placed the bin at the top because i wanted to make it seem like the bin was spilling with rubbish. Once I had finished the collage I didn't feel as if it looked chaotic enough so I went on to add a new layer and create a gradient. The first gradient I used i wasn't entirely a fan of because it looked to blocky. so I used another one and used the blending mode 'Saturation' and placed the gradient at the top of the layers so it covered all of the collage.
