We was given a camera, a mirror and freedom to take pictures of whatever we wanted.. well as long as it involved the mirror in some sort of way. I personally really enjoyed this task, weird and odd pictures came out of it. Here are some examples:
WWW: I love the exploration of different types of edges in this work and I love playing with the mirror to add more edges to the photographs. EBI: More unique placements of the mirror would've made the outcome much more interesting |
Here is a collection of the photos I took for the task.
Going into it, personally I found it quite simple compared to the other tasks that have been set. The results though, where amazing. Little did I know something so simple could make such abstract images. This just shows how much light takes such a huge part in photography. In this task the quote ''Photography is drawing with light'' comes into play quite literally. Such a simple thing with such great results astounds me. I really enjoyed this task and would love to play around with light, shadows and contrast again and see what other compositions I can come up with. |
This is the first picture I took, I shone my flashlight to the left of the paper and angled my camera just so I can get an even out contrast. By turning on the macro setting on the camera I could get close to the paper and get good detail to view the shadows and the composition of the paper so it was not just simply a piece of paper with a white background. The outcome of the picture looked really good and really well contrasted, you can obviously see all the folds and the shadows due to the placement of the light. I really liked this picture.
But I could improve it by removing the date below it, though I like the retro feeling its not as crisp and clean as I had liked it to be. |
So you're probably asking (unless you are a super smarty pants who knows what this is) what is a concertina book?! Well, thats what I asked too when I first heard about it. But do not fear, its really not as complicated as it sounds.
So basically, a concertina book is a type of book that folds out and in. Not so basically its a long stip of paper, or card, folded down into equal rectangles, triangles or squares until it is just one square (kinda like an accordian) then you can pull it back out and stick pictures, or write in it to make it look all pretty. Ok, reading over this it is kinda hard to explain, but I hope you get it. |
Though I couldnt photograph the creation of my book, I did find this very handy picture guide on how to make one, well make one of the many kind of concertina books out there.
I followed that guide with my teacher, but instead we folded it first into the desired fold we wanted it then cut down the edges. Once we had cut the edges and where left with three strips conjoining at each end, well opsite ends- oh just look at that > Once I was pleased with the shape and the way it looked I proceeded to print out pictures of my choice, some from in class work and some pictures I just found cute/ funny. Once I had printed them and cut them upn with the guilotene, I begun to collage them, cutting.. ripping them up into different shapes and sticking them onto the pages of my book. I felt this had a nice effect to the whole thing since I had implanted new knowlage from the collage lessons we had previously had. |
Randy Grskovic.
He is a photographer that experiments with digital style and collage. I find his work interesting and eye catching since its varies in style. The way he experiments with edges and making the pictures look unique in there own ways is also another way it catches my eye. Heres one of the main pictures that captured my eye: The way he plays with shapes and the edges of the pictures is very interesting. The compositions of shapes and pictures makes his work very unique. |
This task was overall quite enjoyable, and i found it challenging as well. It challenged my knowledge and skill on cameras and what I have learned during term. I was quite disciplined during this task, had to think imaginative and had to stick with difficulties. What went well during this task was the overall outcome, the way they look and the aesthetic of it. But what could be better is if we took more pictures and took pictures in more places. This here is my favourite picture of them all. |
